Kathleen Willard

KATHLEEN WILLARD joined her high school protest to save the whales in California, which began her lifelong interest in environmental issues. Her poetry is inspired by studies of the Environmental Protection Agency, science articles and science journalism. Her book of poems, Cirque and Sky, uses pastorals explore the beauty of nature and anti-pastorals highlight its exploitation. The anti-pastorals tackle fracking, superfund sites, benzene spills, wildfires and pine bark beetle infestation. She is currently working on a second book of poems dealing with climate change titled Livable Equilibrium.
